This is getting close to home! A 12 year old girl from a neighboring town, of a family I know has caused the first Vermont Amber Alert! Last seen a stones throw from my house!
Here is the Local News Story
Police think it may have something to do with a person or people she has been chatting with online through her MySpace Page. No one is sure if she was abducted or went willingly but are figuring the worse to be safe. It is situations like this that give people another reason for people to not trust social sites, marketers and especially MySpace. It makes me wonder how I can help make the internet safer for all of our children. Education has to be the best route. All children will have to know what CAN happen and realize their situation is generally better than they think and one wrong decission could make it much worse in a hurry!
In my efforts to find an Amber Alert widget to place on my websites I found this post claiming that MySpace and Friendster have dissabled any off site linking which dissables the Amber Alert widget only to be sure only their advertising is allowed on their sites. The sites most likely atributed to the most of these type problems.I found a couple of posts stating this but an not sure if the widgets will work on the sites because I personaly have not tested one yet. Anyone knowing more on this subject please comment with your information.
Any website or blog owners that can use widgets can get one here.
Thanks and be sure to keep your eyes open!
