New England’s largest regional fair opens its gates today at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass. The show’s 17-day run will draw more than 6,000 youth competitors and thousands of animals vying for awards.
A number of new offerings are planned. The jackpot obstacle contest and youth judging competition are especially noteworthy, says Betsy Booth, Wolfeboro, N.H., who manages the llama show. "The youth judging contest is the only one in the area and is an outstanding educational opportunity for kids."
In the beef arena, Belted Galloway exhibitors will again face a record number of competitors, reports Donna Woolam, Big E’s director of agriculture. Dairy producers will see a strong lineup of dairy shows, as Holstein, Ayrshires and Milking Shorthorn again hold their national regional events.
Much more will be happening outside the livestock arenas. For instance, the Farm-A-Rama will feature "Through the Seasons: The New England Farmers’ Year". The turn-of-the-century exhibit will be in the Stroh Building.
Here’s a quick look at the main livestock events. All are shows unless otherwise noted. For the full Big E schedule, visit the Web site www.thebige.com. Or call 413-205-5115.
A bad ending for the Amber Alert last night. It came over the Channel 3 News, A press release by the state police stating Brooke Bennet’s body was believed to have been found. An empty feeling came over me. My heart goes out to Jim Bennet and his family.
In the beginning it was thought Brooke had met up with someone she had been talking to on MySpace but it now seems that was a cover up by the real criminals and was not posted by Brooke. Proves you never can tell who wrote what on the Internet. One must really do their due diligence when communicating over the Internet and don’t believe the first site you see just because it was top in the search engine you used.
I have always heard these bad things are usually tied to someone the victim knows. It sure looks like its the case here. I think it would have been easier to take if it was someone from far away on the Internet.
As the investigation continues, the facts will come out and we will all know who, how and why. A happy little town in Vermont had some very ugly secrets and I hope for all of us this cleans them up. The death of a 12 year old must cause positive repercussions to balance life.
This is getting close to home! A 12 year old girl from a neighboring town, of a family I know has caused the first Vermont Amber Alert! Last seen a stones throw from my house!
Police think it may have something to do with a person or people she has been chatting with online through her MySpace Page. No one is sure if she was abducted or went willingly but are figuring the worse to be safe. It is situations like this that give people another reason for people to not trust social sites, marketers and especially MySpace. It makes me wonder how I can help make the internet safer for all of our children. Education has to be the best route. All children will have to know what CAN happen and realize their situation is generally better than they think and one wrong decission could make it much worse in a hurry!
In my efforts to find an Amber Alert widget to place on my websites I found this post claiming that MySpace and Friendster have dissabled any off site linking which dissables the Amber Alert widget only to be sure only their advertising is allowed on their sites. The sites most likely atributed to the most of these type problems.I found a couple of posts stating this but an not sure if the widgets will work on the sites because I personaly have not tested one yet. Anyone knowing more on this subject please comment with your information.
Any website or blog owners that can use widgets can get one here.
